Song for a Winter's Night

The lamp is burning low upon my table top
The snow is softly falling
The air is still in the silence of my room
I hear your voice softly calling.

If I could only have you near
To breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
On this winter night with you. . . .

The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim
The shades of night are lifting
The morning light steals across my windowpane
Where webs of snow are drifting.

February 2010 Snow at My House

If I could only have you near, to breathe a sigh or two
I would be happy just to hold the hands I love
And to once again be with you
On this winter night with you.

Gordon Lightfoot

Lovely. The images evoked are perfect for Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas, Linda . . . and thank you for taking time out of your Christmas Eve to stop by and leave a message . . . it is most definitely not snowing at my house here in Dallas . . . but it is cold and dreary and rain is promised . . . the snow photos (above) were taken at my house . . . in February of this year . . . V. . . .

Thank you for quoting some very profound words...words I can relate to very well right now.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Vickie...I love the collage of your winter past...would love to have a white Christmas here in soaked but sunny San Diego!

Merry Christmas ~

Those snowy scenes are definitely not the norm for this area . . . last winter broke all kinds of records here . . . and those lyrics . . . I don't recall ever hearing that song . . . but the words, the snow is softly falling, kept going thru my mind . . . so I Googled it . . . and this is what came up . . . quite timely and appropriate . . .
